A musical offering of hope, Esta Distancia, the newest album released by the all-female two-time Grammy award-winning Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, explores the themes of distance, loss, and sadness, as well as, hope, faith, and resilience. Through music, this album highlights the complexities of shared human experience in the face of COVID19 and the resulting worldwide pandemic. Living through the shared experience of sickness, death, and quarantines – the arts, in particular music, have helped us cope, survive, and in some cases, thrive in the face of adversity. Each song in this album examines the theme of “distance” in its various manifestations. Featuring an eclectic array of expert arrangements by Alberto Jimenez Maeda and Cindy Shea, this album showcases the mastery of multiple genres and styles of which Mariachi Divas excels. This 11-track album contains a diversity of musical offerings, including reimagined interpretations of hit songs such as “Kilometros,” “Contigo en la distancia” and “Recuérdame” from Disney Pixar’s award-winning film Coco, as well as, an appearance by guest artist Daniel Ho on ukulele for “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/ What a Wonderful World.” In addition to these beloved classics is an original heartfelt composition by Cindy Shea, Edgar Cortázar, Elyan Zamora, Oscar Villa “Esta Distancia.” This melancholy, yet hopeful and poetic song, describes the agony of being separated from the one you love.
